100th birthday Congratulations

Mavis Ryan, a long-time member of ANZROC (Victoria), will by now have received a letter from Her Majesty the Queen, and also the Governor-General, as she reached the grand age of 100 years on 7 February 2020.

Born in Melbourne on 7th February 1920, Mavis attended Sacred Heart College in Geelong after her Railway family moved there in 1927.

She enjoyed a career spanning twenty-eight years with ANZ, initially joining The Bank of Australasia in Malop Street, Geelong.

Mavis was eventually transferred to the Advance department in the ANZ Divisional Office (V & T) situated at 351 Collins Street, Melbourne. She also enjoyed three and a half years at 2 Martin Place Sydney, before being appointed to Personnel Department at the 394 Collins Street, Melbourne Headquarters.

On the opening of the new ANZ Headquarters at 55 Collins St, the Personnel Department moved to that location, and it was from here, that Mavis eventually retired in 1981.

On retirement, Mavis, together with a long-time school friend, spent 5 months travelling Europe.

Currently, Mavis lives independently in a unit in Belmont, a suburb of Geelong.

An avid reader, her local library provides her with regular deliveries that assist her to keep up with current events, both nationally and internationally. Mavis said that she looks forward to her weekly treat when her hairdresser visits.

The committee and all members of the ANZ Retired Officers' Club express their best wishes to Mavis on this milestone achievement.

“President Ken Crawford presented flowers and a card to Mavis and later with ANZROC member Val Goldsworthy joined her for lunch.”
